● Nasarawa Lawmakers led by the Speaker attend summit
Amidst growing security challenges and political upheavals across the states in the country including Nasarawa, Afo Nation youth of North Central Nigeria put together a one day youth summit to have a robust conversation on the matter and the way forward.
The event which drew drew participants from across Afo Nation and other youth including stakeholders on security and peace also had the state governor and the Speaker of the Nasarawa Assembly and among several other notable individuals in attendance.
The summit which took place in Keffi, headquarters of Nasarawa West Senatorial as district was organised by the Nasarawa Peace and Prosperity Project Through Law in conjunction with Afo Youth Mobility a Coalition of Afo Professors and Centre for Community Actions for Peace and Development.
Speaking at the occasion. Nasarawa State Governor Engr. Abdullahi A Sule tasked leaders and youths of Afo land to join forces with other ethnic groups in the State to reach a common understanding towards the promotion of peace and unity to build an egalitarian society for all
While declaring the summit open, Governor Abdullahi Sule acknowledged the APC National Legal Adviser Professor Kana’s effort at convening the summit and the giant contribution of former APC National Chairman Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
He emphasized the inputs of Adamu at ensuring the recent crisis that rocked part of the Afo land does not escalate.
The Governor reiterated his administration’s determination to ensure that issues that always lead to crisis are addressed maximally.
He said that part of the solution to such issues is the synergy between the leadership and the youths, just as he cautioned the youths against disrespecting their leaders.
Aside highlighting the benefits of peaceful coexistence among the people of the state, Governor Sule said government will continue to be responsive to meeting its obligation on ensuring peace and security at all times.
On his part, the First Civilian Governor of Nasarawa State and former National Chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu identified the importance of peace and it’s positive impact on the society, hence appreciating the organisers of the peace and security summit for thinking along a positive line.
Convener of the Summit, Professor Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana who doubles as the National Legal Adviser of the APC decried the situation where brothers turned against each other.
He however underscored the collective effort of all at advancing solutions to such negative issues just as he lauded Governor Abdullahi Sule for his efforts in that regard.
Retired Commodore, Yahaya Owuna aligned himself with the issues of leadership and youths unemployment while the Executive Director, Centre for Community Actions for Peace and Development, Ahmed Salihu conversed a way forward in regards to the issue on the table, which is peace and security. .
The Summit with its theme, Building Bridges: Innovative Approaches To Conflict Prevention and Resolution draw participants from across Afo land in the State to guide against tribal and other crisis.
The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau led other members of the House to attend the summit.
