The Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM) has condemned the gang-rape of three teenage girls from Rim Community, Riyom LGA, Plateau State, by a group of five adult Fulani herdsmen.
In a statement jointly signed by Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri and Bature Iliya Adazaram, president and secretary General of Berom Youths Moulder association respectively said the
victims, aged 12, 14, and 15, were allegedly attacked while fetching firewood in Rafin-Acha axis of Jol Community.
According to the BYM, the herdsmen, armed with cutlasses and sticks, threatened to kill the girls if they didn’t comply with their demands. One of the victims, Sele Victor, recounted how she was raped by three of the attackers.
The BYM has called for justice, demanding the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators, as well as the non-release of the apprehended cows belonging to the rapists until they surface.
The group also urged the government to ban open grazing, rehabilitate and pay the medical bills of the victims, and take other necessary measures to address the issue.
The BYM commended the efforts of Operation Safe Haven, the vigilante, and other individuals who helped rescue the victims and apprehend one of the perpetrators.
