Members of the National Youth Service Corps deployed to served the nation for one year have been assured by the state government of their security and safety throughout the year and beyond.
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has reiterated the determination of his administration to cater for the well-being and security of Corps members posted to the State for their one year National Youth Service Scheme.
The Governor stated this on Tuesday while declaring the 2024 National Youth Service Corps’ Batch B, Stream 1 Orientation Course closed at the Magaji Dan Yamusa Orientation Camp, in Keffi, Nasarawa State.
The Governor represented at the occasion by the Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development who doubles as Chairman of the NYSC Governing Board in the State, Hon. Jafaru Ango, the Governor congratulated the corps members for completing of one of the four cardinal requirements of the scheme, which he said has adequately prepared them for the service to their fatherland.
“I am happy to witness the closing ceremony of the three week Orientation Course of the 2024 Batch B, Stream 1 Corps Members posted to Nasarawa State.
“I heartily congratulate both camp officials and corps members for achieving a hitch-free orientation exercise.
“It’s a thing of joy to see that the Orientation Exercise has produced service-ready corps members who will selflessly support our development effort in Nasarawa State.
“I hope the Corps members are ready to diligently apply all the lessons learnt during the orientation course.
“Now that you are fully equipped with the necessary tools to help you excel, ensure you put the skills into good use.
“Play your roles effectively, and without bitterness or rancour.
“Kindly exhibit the same spirit and discipline in ensuring that you participate actively in achieving the other three cardinals of the Scheme as spelt out to you during the Orientation Exercise.”
The Governor, while urging Corps Members deployed to the State to enjoy the hospitality and finesse of Nasarawa State, assured of his Administration’s continuous support to the NYSC in Nasarawa State and Nigeria.
“Nasarawa State and her people are peaceful, friendly and loving. Feel free to relate with the citizens as your parents, brothers and sisters.
“Ensure you step down the knowledge so acquired to members of your host-community, especially youth and adolescents.
“This will help them to develop and keep them off the streets. This is one of the many ways you can give back to the community and nation at large.
“Importantly, too, your safety and general well-being are our top priorities because we are home away from home.
“We will remain committed to supporting the NYSC in the State and at the National level to enable them effectively carry out the purposes of establishment.”
Earlier, State Coordinator of the NYSC, Abdullahi Jikamshi, congratulated the Corps Members for the attainment of one of the cardinal objectives of the Scheme which is fostering national unity and integration.
He said the Orientation Course had equipped the Corps members mentally and physically to enable them face the service year.
The State Coordinator added that the Corps members exhibited maturity, discipline and commitment to serve their fatherland.
Jikamshi urged the Corps Members to show patriotism, hard work and resilience to enable them meet the expectations of the Scheme and Nigerians by contributing to the unity, progress and development of Nigeria.
He appreciated Governor Abdullahi Sule for his positive gestures and plans towards the Scheme in the State.
The State Coordinator also applauded the NYSC Governing Board, Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, and other key stakeholders for their unwavering support to the Scheme in the State.
A total of 1,688 Corps Members successfully completed the Twenty-one day Orientation Course.
Also present at the closing ceremony were the Permanent Secretary, Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Barr. Isaac Danladi; Heads of Government and Private Institutions; Security Agencies; Religious and Traditional Leaders, among others.
