Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger state has explained that the fight against banditry and drug abuse in the state is succeeding and yielding fruitful results despite the isolated cases experienced recently.
The Governor stated this on Monday while declaring open the North Central Women Sensitization Workshop in Minna.
The Governor who was represented by his deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba said his administration is committed to ensure that women are involvement in all levels of governance.
He said, ” in Niger state, the administration is committed towards providing adequate security of lives and properties. We are therefore doing everything possible to curb the menace of banditry, drug abuse and other abuses on women. I want to assure you that the fight against banditry and other social vices has been recording tremendous successes despite the occurence of isolated cases”.
He implored men to always give unwavering support to women while commending the House of Representatives Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development for organizing the Sensitizations workshop in Niger state.
Earlier, the Wife of the Kwara state Governor, Professor Olufoleke Abdulrazak who is also the Chairperson of Governors’ wives Forum decried the prevalence of drug abuse and sexual abuse in the country insisting that there is the urgent need to curb the trend.
He said that the Forum has entered partnership with NDLEA and other relevant stakeholders to engage in the efforts to eradicate drug abuse and other vices by women including the rehabilitation of those who are already addicted , adding that, ” drug abuse breeds insecurity which ultimately lead to human sufferings “.
