A University Don, Professor Salahu Ibrahim of Ibrahim Badamasi University Lapai, (IBBUL) has given reason why corrupt politicians do not like history

Professor Salahu a lecturer of economic and political history at the University argued that politicians and other people fear history because of their roles in the socio-economic and political maladies which has plagued the country, Nigeria.

Professor Lawal stated this in an inaugural lecturer delivered Thursday in Lapai main campus of the University.

According to him, their roles are recorded by history on the strands of sand with indelible in that cannot be easily rubbed off.

He said, ” since history deals with past records and events, politicians in Nigeria are afraid as the day they would be asked to look into the mirror is not far”.

He argued that the political situation in the country has made politicians to avoid genuine elections, turned privileged government offices to defraud the state and enrich themselves and cronies, adding that of recent, politicians with political appointments turned their offices into Automated Teller Machines ( ATM) where they milked the nation of its wealth.

” History is feared because it is the store house of peoples’ action. It is a societal Mirror. This accounts for seemingly dislike and neglect of history in the country resulting in its gradual annihilation in the school curriculum and by extension in the Nigeria society”.

Professor Lawal explained that for the country to succeed in total eradication of corruption in all spheres of the society, the study of history should be reintroduced in education curriculum at primary and secondary school levels.

In a remark, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu said that the management of the institution is in full support of the reintroduction of history studies in education curriculum in the country
