Nigeria’s efforts to combat terrorism and banditry have received a significant boost following the delivery of critical military supplies by the United States government to the Nigerian Armed Forces.
The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) disclosed the development in a statement shared on its verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, confirming that the supplies were formally handed over to Nigerian authorities in Abuja.

According to AFRICOM, the delivery underscores Washington’s continued commitment to strengthening its long-standing security partnership with Nigeria.
“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasises our shared security partnership,” the command stated.
The latest support comes amid sustained collaboration between Nigeria and its international allies to enhance capacity in addressing terrorism, banditry and other security challenges across the country.
In November 2025, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu formally appealed to the United States for military assistance to support counter-terrorism operations, particularly in volatile regions. The appeal was conveyed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in response to the United States’ designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern.”
Subsequently, an airstrike was reportedly carried out on December 25, 2025, in collaboration with Nigerian authorities, targeting terrorist enclaves in the North-West. The Federal Government later confirmed ongoing intelligence sharing and operational cooperation with the United States following the action.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also reaffirmed Nigeria’s engagement in “structured security cooperation with international partners, including the United States of America,” stressing that such collaborations are guided by international law, respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty and shared security interests.
Meanwhile, U.S. Congressman Riley Moore described the airstrikes as “a decisive move to protect Christian communities and confront the deepening security crisis in Nigeria.” Follow www.krestnews.com
