The Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, has been plunged into grief and shock following the tragic discovery of the lifeless body of a 24-year-old HND graduate, Fatima Salihu Muhammad.
Fatima, daughter of Salihu Muhammad Chimo, a senior management staff of the institution, went missing on Wednesday, 24th September 2025, after being sent to buy groceries in Birshin Fulani, a community near the Polytechnic. Despite frantic efforts, she never returned home, and her mobile phone remained unreachable.
The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed that Fatima’s decomposing body was discovered on Monday, 29th September, on a maize farm within the Polytechnic staff quarters.
According to CSP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, the Command’s spokesperson, the body was discovered after a farmer noticed a disturbing odour while harvesting crops.
Police operatives, led by CSP Yahaya Yunusa, secured the scene and identified the remains as Fatima. Her personal belongings, including a bag and groceries she had purchased, were found beside her. The body was taken to the Federal Polytechnic Clinic, where medical personnel confirmed her death.
Her remains were released to her grieving family and buried the same day according to Islamic rites, with her Janaza prayer held at the Federal Polytechnic Central Mosque.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered a discreet and thorough homicide investigation to uncover the circumstances of her death, gather evidence, and ensure justice.
The management, staff, and students of the Polytechnic, alongside the Bauchi community, have expressed their condolences to the family, praying for Allah’s mercy and eternal rest for Fatima.Follow www.krestnews.com
