Contractors handling road contracts in Nasarawa State have been summoned to the State Assembly .
This follows the slow pace of work noticed on the Toto -Umaisha road Rehabilitation which is only 30% completion despite the release of more than half of the contract sum approved.
The visibly disappointed Assembly expressed its dissatisfaction with the pace of work and directed the committee on works to summon the contractor and other contractors handling road projects across the state to explain the reason for the slow pace.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau gave the directive when the member representing Umaisha/ Ugya constituency, Hon. Ibrahim Abdullahi Sa’ad raised the issue under matters of public importance during the House proceedings today in Lafia.
The Speaker commended the mover of the motion Hon. Ibrahim Abdullahi Sa’ad and other lawmakers for their effective contributions on the matter.
” I want to commend Hon. Sa’ad, the mover of the motion and Hon. Members have all spoken well, it shows we have Nasarawa State at heart.
” Unfortunately, despite all the good efforts and good intentions of His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi Sule for the people of the State.
“Some people are out there sabotaging his efforts, they are saboteurs around and we will not condole their actions,
” The resolution of the House is to the effects that, one the House standing committee on Works and Transport within two weeks should invite all contractors handling road projects in Nasarawa State to report for updates and necessary clarifications.
” Two, the Deputy Speaker, who is the Head of Monitoring Committee should within two weeks carryout effective monitoring of all road projects in the state and know their stages and progress” he said.
The Speaker said that the House would no leave any stone unturned to ensure that the right things are done for the overall development of the State.
Earlier, Hon. Ibrahim Abdullahi Sa’ad, member representing Umaisha/ Ukya constituency while raising the issue expressed concern that the contract period for the rehabilitation of Toto/Umaisha Road has elapsed and the work has not reach 30% state of completion.
“This issue has to do with my people, in 2022, His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi Sule approved rehabilitation of Umaisha/Toto road of about 48km to 50KM of contract sum of N4.2 billion and about N2 billion has already been paid to the contractor.
“But up till now no any reasonable efforts shown because the work is below 30%.
” This is a legacy project of his Excellency, Gov.Abdullahi Sule in my area but the contractors are frustrating it” he said.
Contributing, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Adamu Oyanki, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Jonah Ali Dizaho, Hon. Esson Mairiga, Hon. Solomon Akwashiki and Hon. Onarigu Onah Kana, all frowned at the development and supported the move to invite the contractor for explanation.
They said government invested so much on infrastructure and some people are sabotaging the state government efforts especially in contracts across the State.
