Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, says the wave of opposition politicians defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is driven by the fiscal and structural reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Governor Sule stated this on Monday at the Government House, Lafia, when the state leadership of the APC, led by its Chairman, Dr. Aliyu Bello, presented Senator Ahmed Wadada Aliyu (Nasarawa West) to officially mark his return to the party.
Tinubu’s Reforms Fuel APC Growth
Responding to speculations that politicians are defecting merely to gain electoral advantage ahead of 2027, the governor insisted that the real motivation is confidence in President Tinubu’s courageous economic reforms.
“I must congratulate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his bold and visionary reforms. It’s because of these courageous steps that we’re witnessing governors and leaders returning to the APC. When the righteous lead, the people rejoice,” Sule declared.
He recalled that even in 2015, a sitting president lost several states due to poor governance, noting that the current influx into the APC shows that Nigerians now appreciate performance and reform-driven leadership.
‘APC is the Party of the Future’
Governor Sule dismissed assumptions that ruling parties naturally retain members out of fear or coercion.
“People are staying in the APC because it’s the right party today, tomorrow, and forever,” he said.
He emphasized that President Tinubu’s leadership has reawakened trust in government and inspired governors from opposition states to realign with the ruling party.
Wadada’s Homecoming Strengthens APC
The governor described Senator Wadada’s return as a “homecoming that changes the political equation” in Nasarawa State.
“Senator Wadada could have stayed in his former party and fought us, but he chose unity. His return, along with other key figures like Senator Godiya Akwashiki, marks a major boost for the APC,” he added.

Governor Sule commended Dr. Aliyu Bello and the APC working committees at all levels for their tireless efforts in repositioning the party across the state.
2027: Fair and Open Contest Ahead
He reassured party members that his administration will ensure a level playing field for all aspirants in the 2027 elections.
“We’ll be fair, transparent, and just. Whoever wins in a credible primary will have everyone’s support,” the governor said.
Wadada Donates 18 Vehicles
In a major show of support, Senator Ahmed Wadada donated 18 Sharon vehicles to the party—13 for local government secretariats and 5 for zonal offices.
Wadada, who served as National Financial Secretary of the defunct New PDP before the 2013 merger that birthed the APC, described his return as “a reunion with family.”
“Everywhere I go, I build networks across communities. Today, I have returned home to the APC because I believe in Governor Sule’s leadership and the party’s vision,” he said.

APC Leadership Commends Unity Efforts
Earlier, APC State Chairman, Dr. Aliyu Bello, praised Governor Sule’s leadership for creating an atmosphere of peace and inclusion that continues to attract prominent politicians to the APC.
He also apologized for recent public exchanges with detractors, pledging to focus on party unity moving forward.
The event climaxed with the formal handover of the donated vehicles to Governor Sule for onward distribution to the beneficiaries.
