Bandits have once again laid siege to Niger State as Palaita community in Erena Ward of Shiroro Local Government Area came under a horrific attack on Wednesday, leaving 24 villagers— including pregnant women—abducted.
The gunmen struck around 2:00pm while residents were busy working on their rice farms. Despite the community being only five kilometres from a military camp in Erena, the attackers whisked their victims away before security personnel could intervene.
Earlier the same morning, the bandits raided Kakuru community within the same Erena Ward, where they met a blind man alone in his home. After collecting his mobile phone, the attackers became enraged when he explained that the phone did not belong to him. In a shocking act of cruelty, they amputated his right hand.
“They arrived around 8:00am and met only the blind man since others had gone to their farms or fled,” a resident said. “He told them the phone belonged to someone else, and they cut off his hand after taking it from him.”
The victim was rushed to a patent medicine store in Kuduru community for first aid.
Meanwhile, the Niger State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of ten persons from Angwan-Kawo and Kuchipa villages, also in Shiroro LGA.
In a brief statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said:
“On November 26, 2025 at about 8pm, report received indicated that suspected armed men abducted about ten persons from Angwan-Kawo & Kuchipa villages of Shiroro Local Govt Area. Effort is being emplaced to rescue the victims.”
