The Nasararawa State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has reinstated its commitment to partner with the Football Association (FA) to promote grassroots football development in the state.
Mr Smah George, Newly sworn-in chairman of SWAN made the committee on Friday in Lafia while he led other officials and members of the association on a courtesy call to Ahj. Salisu Galadima, FA chairman in the state.
The SWAN Chairman along with other officials was inaugurated on Tuesday, July 9, and said that the visit was to identify the FA as one of the most critical stakeholders in football development and administration.
Gorge explained that both SWAN and FA are in the business of promoting sports and football and need each to succeed.
“This visit I believe will strengthen the relationship that is already existing between us and ensure effective collaboration,” he added.
The number one sports writer in the state further congratulated the FA Chairman for the promotion of two clubs in the state to a higher league in the country.
“I congratulate you for the return of Nasararawa United Football Club to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and the promotion of Basira Football Club to the Nigeria National League (NNL),” the SWAN Chairman added.
The Nasararawa State FA Chairman is the owner of Basira Football Club, that second term that got promoted to NNL from the state.
He also appealed to the FA Chairman to carry SWAN members along in all their activities for proper reportage of sports, especially football at the grassroots level.
Responding, the FA Chairman congratulated the new SWAN officials on their election and promised to work closely with them to promote football in the state.
He also promised to direct the FA chairmen in the 13 Local Government Areas in the state to work closely with SWAN to ensure that grassroots football is reported effectively.
Ahj. Galadima also said that the FA under his leadership would give football writers the necessary support to enable them to succeed in their effort to give publicise sporting events and players to the outside world. (NAN).
