The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of women Affairs Gabriel Aduda has described the participation of women in National economic growth
as crucial in the drive to good governance in Nigeria.
Aduda stated this during the 24th regular National council on women Affairs in Jos,the Plateau State capital.
He said this year’s council meeting with the Theme ” Renewed Hope Agenda, promoting women Economic Empowerment, health, education Empowerment and justice for global competitiveness and relevance” focuses on ensuring that women and girls can participate and flourish in Nigeria’s dynamic economy.
The Permanent Secretary explained that the National women’s economic Empowerment (WEE) policy and action plan aims to reduce gender inequality in accessing economic participation and leadership.
Speaking earlier, Director economic service department, federal ministry of Women Affairs, Blessing Anwulike, emphasized on the the role of Women Economic Empowerment policy in the transformative change in areas of participation of women in Agriculture, Entrepreneurship, emerging Industries, traditional Labour market,women’s education and skill acquisition among others.
She also pointed out that the policy domesticated and implemented in the 36 states of the federation is working with the cooperation of the Nigeria Governors spouses forum to achieve the required transformative change.
Kano state Director Planning and Research ministry of Women Affairs people living with disabilities and also the Secretary domestication, Yakubu Mohammed, said Kano state government is one of the first state to initiate the implementation of the WEE policy which he described as a powerful tool for transforming the state economy and empowering women.
On his part, Director Planning Research and Statistics, Nasarawa State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Clement Alu, who led other delegates from Lafia, commended Governor Abdullahi Sule, for being passionate about women involvement in decision making and good governance in the state.
He said the government is working assiduously to ensuring that policies promoting the rights of women and children are given great priority.
Alu added that, “our Governor is doing everything possible to see that the WEE policy is implemented in due course to reduce gender inequality in accessing economic opportunities and resources, supporting women’s participation in the economic growth”
Our correspondent reports that the twenty-forth regular National council on women Affairs had in attendance all the thirty – six states including the federal capital who came together to chart their way forward concerning the transformative changes ahead of them.
The meeting is on the women’s economic Empowerment (WEE) policy and the impact the domestication and implementation will have on women in the country.
Eden ventures group who are also supporting the amplification of the domestication and implementation efforts of the WEE were also part of the event and there were also penel of discussions, questions and answers on matters arising from the meeting.
