The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the arrest of astudent of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, for allegedly hacking to death a fellow student.
The Command through the Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the arrest in a statement in Lafia, the state capital.
He explained that the arrest followed a report lodged by a resident, Madam Mercy Bassey, of a violent altercation between her tenant and his friend.
He said following the report, detectives were dispatched to the scene, where they found one Ibrahim Matthew, a part-time ND2 Computer Science student, lying in a pool of blood.
The PPRO said the victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Nasarawa town but was pronounced dead due to the severity of his injuries on arrival.
SP Nansel said the suspect, John Gambo, an ND2 Banking and Finance student, was arrested and that he confessed to attacking the victim with an axe and a knife.
He noted the weapons, which were stained with blood, were recovered as evidence.
The statement reads: “On the 6th of February, 2025, at about 0200hrs, a report was lodged at Nasarawa Division by one Mercy Bassey, a female resident at the address behind ECWA Peace College, Shagari Road, Nasarawa, regarding a violent altercation between two individuals. Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, immediately sent a team of detectives who promptly responded to the scene. The detectives found one Ibrahim Matthew, a part-time ND2 Computer Science student of the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa (FPN), lying in a pool of his own blood. Ibrahim had suffered fatal injuries. He was immediately rushed to General Hospital Nasarawa, where he was confirmed dead. The body was subsequently deposited in the morgue for post mortem examination” he explained.
He said the Commissioner of Police, Shettima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for further investigation and prosecution.(www.krestnews.com).
