The nation wide called by the Nigeria labour congress, NLC and TUC for the review of the national wages for workers is begging to take its toll on the nation’s economy.

Earlier in the morning of today, the electricity Transmission Company of Nigeria announced that the Labour Unions have shut down it’s transmission there by throwing the nation into total black out.

And currently, travellers using airways are reportedly stranded at the Abuja, Murtala Mohammed International Airport.

Krestnews reports that also affected are international flights as well as domestic flights.

Besides the airport, the entrance gate to the National Assembly is also reported blocked by the unions, shutting down services rendered by legislative aids.

Other reports from across the country also shows that civil servants have shied away from their offices as most of the office are reportedly shut down in compliance to the union leaders directive.

Also joining the strike is Academic staff union of universities, ASUU, and also Nurses and Midwives have joined the trail.

The Nigeria labour unions are accusing government of being insensitive to the plight of the Nigerian worker as they have not seriousness in the negotiation so far.

Krestnews reports that the Nigeria labour unions are demanding for the payment of over 400 thousand as minimum wage considering the high cost of living and especially food stuff.
The unions are also demanding a reverssl of the recent hike in the electricity tarrif and the introduction of what they call apartheid system of billing and payments where consumers are categorized into bands.

The labour unions are demanding that the government’s in the country should as a matter of urgency address the twin issue of insecurity and high cost of living in the country.

Effort at averting the strike by the organized labour unions by the national assembly was not successful as a meeting summoned by the National Assembly leadership and the leadership of the labour unions ended in a deadlock
