The state government committee to resolve land crisis between two warring communities of Awe Local Government undertook a visit to the disputed communities where the held meetings with stakeholders, chiefs and local govt officials
Members of the Dispute Resolution Committee led by the Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad (JSC) retired were in Wuse and Akiri to meet with the people with a view to reach understanding.
Addressing the two communities separately at Wuse and Akiri, Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State Muhammad Ubandoma Aliyu who represented the Emir of Lafia said the committee’s visit was to condole the communities on the incident urging them not to allow conflict to take away their long established cordial relationship.
The Committee made the appeal while speaking on the essence of peace and unity even in time such as this and wonder what could have prompted the violence having lived together as brothers over the years in peace.
He urged them to see the compelling need to coexist peacefully among themselves in spite of opposing interests to achieve development in all spheres of life.
Barrister Ubandoma Aliyu reminded them that peace and security remain central to the Engineer Sule’s led administration towards transforming the state and would not condone acts capable of undermining such efforts from any quarter.
Chairman, Awe Local Government Council Umar Musa lamented the manner communities that existed with a common history turn against one another over land matters, stressing the need to allow peace and unity among residents of the state to thrive to attract development.
In their separate responses, the Wuse of Wuse, Retired Colonel Bala Yakubu and the Aku-khe of Akiri, Umar Suleiman Yampa appreciated governor Sule for the intervention through the committee saying the gesture confirmed government’s commitment to ensuring resolution of the crisis between the two communities and sustain peace in the area, promising to abide by the decision of government on the matter.
Some residents of the area, Usman Dubagari and Yahaya Usman Bunu who expressed satisfaction with the composition of the committee members, appealed for justice in the assignment of the committee to enhance peace in the area.
Krestnews recalls that in recent time, Wuse and Akiri communities in Awe Local Government of Nasarawa Southern Senatorial District were daggers drawn at each other over a land dispute that resulted to lose of two lives while others sustained various degrees of injuries.
