Borno State Governor Prof Babagana Zulum has commended the people of southern Borno over their visit to Government House in solidarity with those affected by the recent flood in the State.
Welcoming the people, Governor Zulum described the visit as truly heartwarming and demonstrates true love and care for one another in times of trouble such as this and something worthy emulating by all people in Borno state.
The Governor commended Southern Borno stakeholders for their initiative, saying the act will further cement relationship and promoting unity and brotherhood among the various ethnic nationalities in the state capable of engendering peaceful coexistence and development of Borno.
The Governor who was visibly excited about their visit noted that it has raised his spirit to look beyond the litany of woes the flood has brought and be ready to forge on with much courage and strength.
The Governor then said: “For setting the pace for unity, love and care for one another, let us sustain the spirit and continue to increase collaboration between us. We will surely gain a lot by being united than being divided.
” where there is disunity there would be no peace. This is because in the Nigerian polity, we are still a minority. This is why i will advice us to avoid the disunity embers fanned by some politicians and unite ourselves for the progress of our state.”
The Governor assured that he will ensure that Chibok, Gwoza, Damboa and major towns within the southern senatorial zone yet to enjoy the electricity from the national grid as a result of destruction as a result of the insurgency are reconnected.
Governor Zulum then seized the opportunity to frown at the proliferation activities of illegal miners adding that the very act perpetrated by those unscrupulous people is a stimulant for insurgency and banditry.
The Governor commended the entire Southern Borno for the visit adding that the flood really affected every one in the metropolis regardless of whether their homes were flooded or not.
Earlier the leader of the delegation led by the Deputy Governor Umar Kadafur told the Governor that they felt his pains and were in Government House to sympathize with him and the people of Maiduguri over the unfortunate incident.
The Deputy Governor, Kadafur prayed that the unfortunate incident will not occur again in the life of the state.
Highlight of the visit was the presentation of a Chegue of the sum N200 million to the Governor on behalf of the people of Southern Borno as their support to those affected by the flood.
