The Director General of the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation (SABMF), Engr. Abubakar Gambo Umar, has called for a renewed spirit of unity and collective action to address Nigeria’s pressing challenges, urging the media to play a vital role in shaping a peaceful and informed society.

Speaking during an interactive session with top media houses on April 15, 2025, Umar emphasized the Foundation’s commitment to upholding the values of the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, by addressing socio-economic problems and promoting national unity.

“We are gathered here not just to strengthen our collaboration but to reflect on the ideals of peace, good governance, and development that Sir Ahmadu Bello stood for,” he said.

He decried the rising wave of disunity and politically motivated conflicts in the country, particularly the recent sectarian and communal violence in Plateau State that led to loss of lives.

He urged Nigerians to reject all forms of violence and embrace peaceful coexistence.

Umar also expressed concern over the resurgence of Boko Haram in Borno State and persistent banditry across the nation, stressing the need for stronger and more effective security measures to safeguard lives and property.

On economic issues, the DG commended government efforts aimed at reducing food prices and easing the hardship faced by Nigerian families. He called for sustained interventions to improve the well-being of citizens.

Appreciating the media for their role in public enlightenment, Umar noted that the Foundation is eager to build a robust relationship with journalists to amplify the voices of the people and promote policies that bring about national progress.

“The media remains an indispensable partner in our mission to inspire hope, promote peace, and foster a more united Nigeria,” he concluded.

He said interactive session served as a platform to deepen collaboration between the Foundation and the press in championing causes that uplift society and preserve the legacy of one of Nigeria’s most iconic leaders.(www.krestnews.com).
