The Senator representing Kebbi South Senatorial district Mohamed Abubakar Maidoki, has explained that the frequent collapse of National Grid and blackout in the country is caused by lack of probity and investment in the power sector.
Senator Maidoki, also the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Compliance, stated this in Minna while responding to questions by journalists on the incessant collapse of the national grid and blackout of electricity in the country.
According to him the frequent collapse of the national grid of our electricity supply is caused by lack of investment and probity in the sector over the years.
“Nobody has followed up to probe into how whatever money that has been allocated to the sector has been spent in the past years”, he said.
He explained that however, the Senate has began oversight inspection of all facilities in the generation and distribution sectors for proper budgetary provisions in the 2025 federal government budget.
On the issue of the prevailing security challenges facing the country, Senator Mohammed Abubakar Maidoki called on government to pool more resources towards fighting unsurgency in the country.
According to him, the neglect of the poor and their children has been the main factor responsible for the insecurity challenges, adding that as a result we cannot go to the village and sleep with our eyes closed.
Speaking as a member of the of Government Secondary School Rijau Students Association (RIJOSA) Senator Maidoki recalled that he attended the school as the son of a peasant father and was orphaned while at primary school.
He said that it was however disappointing to note that all the systems put in place in those days which enabled vulnerable children to access education has now collapsed, adding that, ” now the children of the poor cannot afford education because the system that assisted us has collapsed “.
