The grand finale of the highly anticipated 1X Cup Football Championship will take center stage on Thursday, October 16, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, marking the climax of five thrilling months of grassroots football action.
The championship, now in its third edition, has earned its place as one of Nigeria’s biggest grassroots football events, boasting a ₦20 million prize pool. This year’s edition promises an even grander spectacle, as top dignitaries from sports, politics, and business circles are set to grace the occasion.
Among the high-profile guests expected are Senator Wasiu Eshinlokun-Sanni (Lagos Central), Lekan Fatodu, Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), renowned sports investor Yemi Idowu, and members of the Lagos Legends Club, alongside several football enthusiasts and stakeholders.
The final match will see debutants Ikorodu City and ISGAT Athletic battle for the championship trophy and the ₦10 million top prize, while Nath Boys and Dosu Joseph FC will contest for ₦3 million in the third-place playoff.
Additional awards will be presented for Best Goalkeeper, Top Scorer, Most Valuable Player, Best Behaved Team, and Goal of the Tournament.
Speaking ahead of the grand finale, Engr. Waidi Akanni, CEO of the 1X Cup and former Nigeria international, assured fans of an unforgettable football experience.
“We’re putting everything in place to make this year’s final exceptional — from security and organization to entertainment,” Akanni said.
“Fans should expect great football, music, and fun moments, including a special appearance by members of the Lagos Legends Club, who will entertain spectators with their vintage football flair.”
