Nasarawa state ministry of has held a one day joint community out reach on maternal and child health.

The programme which is being supported Rotary International and Silver Lining, a nongovernmental organisation engaged in the promotion of immunisation of female adolescent is aimed at creating awareness and get the community buy in of maternal health issues.

Speaking at the programme which took at the Andaha Primary healthcare centre, Akwanga, the State Project Coordinator, Family Planning, Mrs Salome Vincent Aya said the Ministry of Health and the Partners are committed to the promotion of Maternal and Child health in the state

She expressed the need for women to avail themselves of the free Maternal and Child heath care services being provided by the State and supported her partners such as Rotary International and Silver

She said that to he goal of the Ministry and partners is it to see that every pregnant woman delivers her child safely without any medical complications either to the child or mother.

Mrs Aya reiterated the need for women to increase their uptake of family planning for the good of their health, their children and economic planning.

She also used the forum to canvassed for the use of mosquito net to the scourge of of malaria as well as clean sewage to prevent mosquito from breeding which she said can cause fatality. among pregnant women and children

Country Director, Rotary Maternal and Child Health Project in Nigeria, Professor Emmanuel Lufadeju said Rotary is currently out to promote safe maternal health by ensuring that women have access to quality health care service during and after delivery.

While appreciating the level of turn out, the Country Director, urge those that attended the programme carry the message home to other women to always access medical facility during pregnancy to ensure safe.delivery.

The States Rotary and other partners are engaged with Nasarawa, Gombe, Ekiti and the Federal capital territory, FCT, Abuja.

He said Rotary International and partners are currently working with the Nasarawa State Ministry of the promotion of free maternal and child healthcare, especially in the provision of immunisation as well as promote uptake of family planning services.

He appreciated Women in Andaha for their large turn out to access free medical services being provided by Rotary International, Silver Lining in cohort with Nasarawa State.

He also thanked the District Head of Andaha for the warm reception and other hospitality extended to him and his team as well as we for the mass mobilisation of women for the exercise.

The Nasarawa state Rotary International President Mr Kumbugu Dan said Rotary is working in fourteen (14) health facilities made up 13 primary healthcare centres spread was cross the state and one General Hospital; Akwanga General Hospital.

He said Rotary in the 14 states is working on maternal health themes such as immunisation, vaccination and family planning

Mrs Ashezi Ezekiel Maidawa, state Midwive, Rotary Punch, together for healthy families in Nigeria emphasised the need for uptake of family planning services to promote maternal health.

She also spoke on the need to keep environment clean as well as promote personal hygiene, keep children clean and safe as well as devise ways to ensure the cooking of balance diet using local condiments and vegetables for a healthy family.

Other Speakers included Aisha Ushatu Isa of the Silver Lining, who reiterated the commitment of her organisation to the promotion of immunisation among female adolescents to prevent cervical cancer as well as immunisation of children.

Vashti S. Dauda, the immediate past President Rotary Club Keffi, Nasarawa state reiterated the need for women in Andaha to take advantage of the currently totally free maternal health services being provided by the state and partners.

The programme witnessed the provision of such services as free consultation, testing for Malaria, typhoid, BP and Sugar where medication was provided.

Krestnews reports that women that needed counselling or uptake of family plan were attended. Women and children were given prominence while few aged men were also given attention.
