The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented Certificates of Return to Two Nasarawa State House of Assembly Lawmakers, that were recently elected following Appeal Court order for a rerun election.

The lawmakers are Hon Mohammed Adamu Omadefu (APC-Keana) and Hon Musa Ibrahim Abubakar (NNPP- Doma South)

Alhaji Shehu Wahab, Nasarawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) presented the Certificates of Return to the two elected Legislators today in Lafia.

He urged the two lawmakers to ensure they effective representation by supporting the enactment of good laws for the effective administration of the State and their constituencies and the State at large.

Hon Mohammed Adamu Omadefu and Hon. Musa Ibrahim Abubakar while speaking appeal to those that contested with them but were not lucky enough to win to set aside politics and join hands with them to see that Nasarawa achieve it’s desired development.

Hon Mohammed Adamu Omadefu, member representing Keana constituency appreciated stakeholders, women and youths for supporting him during the re-run elections.

” My hands are open to accommodate everybody to keep our constituency safe, develop our constituency and to provide good governance

” Elections are over and it is time for governance. I want to call on my opponent to join hands with me so that we can collectively develop Keana constituency,” he said

The former majority leader also appreciated Gov. Abdullahi Sule, leaders and other members of APC for ensuring his victory at the re-run election.

Omadefu further commended INEC for upholding the tenets of democracy by ensuring free and fair election during the exercise.

Hon Musa Ibrahim Abubakar, representing Doma South constituency dedicated his victory to the women and youths of his constituency for supporting and voting for him during the re-run elections.

” I have the women and youths as my strong supporters. They massively prayed, supported and voted me. I appreciate them all,” he said

Hon Musa also called on his opponents and their supporters to join hand with him in order to develop Doma South constituency and the State at large.

The lawmaker further appreciated INEC for ensuring rancour free re-run election in his constituency.

Musa assured that he would sponsor laws that would have direct bearing in the lives of his people at the grassroots.

” I have so many bills to sponsor that will have direct bearing on the lives of the people of my constituency”

Musa extended an olive branch to his opponents and their supporters.

Krestnews recalls that On 28th of November, 2023, an Appeal court sitting in Abuja declared the election of Keana constituency inconclusive thus nullifying the election of Mohammed Adamu Omadefu, the Majority Leader of Nasarawa State House of Assembly as the Appeal Court also on Nov. 29, 2023 ordered for re-run election in one polling unit of Doma South Constituency, declaring the election of Hon Musa Ibrahim Abubakar inconclusive.

In response to the Court Order, the country’s electoral empire, the Independent National Electoral Commission on February 3, 2024, conducted re-run elections in Keana and Doma local governments respectively where Mohammed Adamu Omadefu of All Progressives Congress APC and Musa Ibrahim Abubakar of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) retained their seats.
