Nasarawa State Governor, Engr Abdullahi Sule
Nasarawa State Government has flatly refuted media reports on the state of public schools in the state as reported that pupils learned on bare floors.
Hon Peter Ahemba, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor, Public Affairs, made the refutation in a public statement issued in Lafia, describing the publication as “misleading to the reality on the ground”.
In his words, Hon. Ahemba said, “The media report is not only a gross misrepresentation of the fact on the ground but a sponsored mischief designed to tarnish the image of government and undermine the transformation taking place in the education sub-sector of the state, particularly in the area of Basic Education under Engr. Sule led government. “
While admitting that some schools may have infrastructural deficiency, he said the “state has made significant investment towards enhancing conducive learning and teaching through massive construction/renovation of classrooms and provision of furniture among other facilities in public primary schools across the State.
He disclosed in the statement that just recently, the Governor, Engr Sule, through the state Universal Basic Education Board, again distributed thousands of schools’ furniture and other instructional materials to public primary schools in the State.
Hon Ahemba, while discontenancing the media report, also urges members of the public to disregard the news report as false, urging journalists to all times cross-check their facts before going public so as to avoid publshing misleading information.
Hon Ahemba further reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the quality of education.
In his words: “The State Government remains committed in ensuring improved standard of education through the provision basic facilities, staff training and re-training, periodic recruitment of teachers to bridge the manpower gap as well as enhancement of their welfare through prompt payment of salary and other entitlements.”(www.krestnews.com).
