Rep. Jeremiah Umaru (APC), Akwanga/Nassarawa-Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency) held peace and security summit in his constituency in order to find lasting solution to the security challenges in the area.

Speaking at the event, the lawmaker explained that summit was part of his contributions to create a platform where people of diverse culture, religion as well as political interest in the area come together to discuss as brothers and sisters irrespective of their differences.

The summit took place in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

He added that it was also aimed at complementing the efforts of the Federal, State, and Local Governments and the traditional and religion leaders are doing to ensure that the people live in peace with one another despite the diverse interests and believes.

Umaru further said that security is not just the responsibility of the government and the security agencies alone, but a collective responsibility hence the initiative to bring his constituents together when brothers sisters

He also called on the people to always report early warnings capable of causing flooding and other emergencies to the appropriate authorities for prompt action to prevent disasters.

The law maker therefore, promised to continue initiate programmes and sponsor quality bills and motions that would help to address the challenges confronting his constituents.

A resource person at the event, Mr. Bashir Idris-Garna, North-Central Director of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), tasked the people to adopt non-violent approach toward addressing conflict.

He added that communication plays an important role in promoting peace and unity, and absence of it brings suspicious thereby serve as security threats.

He enjoined community members to embrace each other and respect the believes and interest of one another as a prerequisite for ensuring peaceful coexistence in the society.

On his part, Samson Gamu-Yare, Chun Mada and Chairman Traditional Council of Akwanga Local Government Area, appreciated the law maker for the initiative to ensure peace and unity through robust engagement with critical stakeholders.

The royal father promised that the traditional rulers would continue to play their roles to ensure that the state remain peaceful.

The meeting had in attendance, Mr Yakubu Kwanta, Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mr Samson Gamu-Yare, Chun Mada and Chairman Traditional Council of Akwanga Local Government Area (LGA).

Others are representatives of Aren Eggon and Sarkin Wamba, Districts Heads, Village Heads and ward heads in the area, students groups, market women, traders as well as political parties among others. (NAN).
