The Plateau State Association in the United Kingdom (PSA-UK) has expressed deep concern over the worsening wave of killings, abductions and violent attacks across Nigeria, describing the situation as a national emergency that demands urgent and decisive action.
In a strongly worded statement on Thursday, PSA-UK President, Dr. Solomon Chollom, said the frequency, brutality and spread of the attacks—especially in Plateau State—have reached “unacceptable and heartbreaking levels.” He noted that from the North to the South, no region is free from coordinated assaults on innocent citizens.
“What began as isolated incidents decades ago has now become a nationwide catastrophe,” the association warned. “Communities are being wiped out, worship centres attacked, and citizens kidnapped with impunity.”
PSA-UK faulted the continued labeling of perpetrators as “unknown gunmen,” insisting that many of these groups publicly claim responsibility and maintain active digital footprints that should aid intelligence operations.
The group urged the Federal Government to seek international support if current security structures remain unable to contain armed groups, stressing that protecting lives must take precedence over political pride.
Recent attacks cited by the association include the killing of a senior military officer, abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi, assaults on worshippers in Kwara, and the continuous killings and annexation of villages in Plateau State.
While reaffirming support for the Armed Forces, PSA-UK called for an internal audit to enhance professionalism, neutrality and operational capacity within the military.
Dr. Chollom also reminded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the Constitution places responsibility for the protection of lives and property on the Federal Government, not state governors, noting that “leadership cannot be delegated.”
PSA-UK PRO, Sendi Zechariah, said the ongoing crisis has evolved beyond security challenges into “a national, humanitarian and moral emergency,” reiterating the association’s commitment to speaking for vulnerable and displaced communities.
“No child should be abducted, no farmer displaced, and no worshipper targeted in a nation that values every life,” he said.
