The Police Command in Nasarawa State has reinstated its commitment to partner with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in tackling insecurity in the state.

Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state, stated this during a courtesy visit by the State Executive Council (SEC) members of NUJ led by its Chairman, Salihu Mohammed-Alkali.

The Commissioner said that the police would leverage the journalists, given their significant role in crime prevention through adequate reporting.

Jauro-Mohammed emphasised the importance of the collaboration in addressing security challenges, stating that “the media plays a crucial role in shaping public perception and influencing behavior.”

The Commissioner of Police assured that the police would work closely with journalists to provide timely and accurate information on security matters.

“Your job is important to the success of our work because you help inform the public about our achievements and expose crimes as well as alert the society about early signals for prompt action,” he said.

The CP assured NUJ of total support and sought their input on how to improve policing strategies to defeat criminal elements.

The Commissioner of Police also said that the command under his watch had improved synergy with the critical stakeholders toward crime prevention, and it has helped thus far.

He, therefore, warned criminals to desist or run from the state before they were caught, as there would be no hiding place for them.

On his part, the Chairman of the NUJ commended the police for their efforts in maintaining law and order in the state.

He pledged the union’s support for the partnership, stating that journalists are committed to responsible reporting and are willing to work with the police to promote peace and security.

He added that the partnership is expected to enhance the flow of information between the police and the public and promote more effective and responsive policing. (NAN).
