The Plateau State Police Command says it is committed to promoting Gender Equality and women empowerment in the state.

Commissioner of police CP Emmanuel Adesina made this know during a walk in commemoration of this year’s International Women’s Day, in collaboration with the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ, within the Federal Lowcost Community.

CP Adesina while recognizing the significant role played by women at the home front said equality would further foster peace, security and development in the country.

Represented by the the Divisional Police Officer Rantya CSP Ayuba Iliya the Commissioner of Police said the command would not tolerate any form of violence against women and would not ignore early ensuring signs.

He therefore called on the public to give credible information the the police and other security agencies to curb Sexual and Gender Based Violence.

A representative of the Police Officers Wives Association POWA Juliet Ishaya while noting that the Police play key role in protecting lives and property of citizens said their should not ignore their responsibility of caring for them and their children.

Earlier, Chairman of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ, Nene Dung explained that rape, child trafficking and spousal abuses were becoming rampant among communities, hence the need to boost advocacy.

Dung said women and girls should be given opportunity to express themselves for a more viable society.

There were goodwill messages from the International Federation of Women Lawyers FIDA, National Council for Women Societies NCWS, Standup For Women Society, SWS, Youth Initiative Against Violence and Human Rights Abuse among other partners

Krestnews.com reports that the nine kilometers walk which commenced at Rantya Police Divisional Headquarters climaxed at the Lalong gate Federal Lowcost.
