The Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIoTA), in partnership with the Plateau State Government, has hosted the North Central Zonal Transport Conference 2025 in Jos.

With the theme “Transforming Transport Infrastructure for Sustainable Economic Development of Nigeria”, the event brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders to chart a new course for regional and national transport growth.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, represented by the State Head of Service, Stephen Gardong, said Plateau is committed to building a modern and interconnected transport system that creates jobs, attracts investments, and improves quality of life.

He highlighted projects such as the Tin City Metro Bus Service, which moves over 20,000 commuters daily, road expansions across the state, digital ticketing systems, and a revived Jos metropolitan train service. Plans are also in place to expand Yakubu Gowon Airport into a cargo hub for agricultural exports.

The Plateau Commissioner for Transport, Jatau Gyang, revealed that the state is pursuing public-private partnerships for modern bus terminals, while finalizing a state transport policy to enforce safety and reduce travel time.

CIoTA Chairman, Prince Segun Ochuko Obayendo, commended Plateau’s initiatives, urging other states to embrace sustainable urban mobility guided by safety, affordability, and efficiency. He also stressed the need for intelligent transport systems, strict regulation, and professional training.

The conference continues with technical sessions and panel discussions and is expected to close with a communiqué on infrastructure reforms and regional collaborations. Visit www.krestnews.com for more.
