Governor Abdullahi A. Sule in his determination to bring to bear integrated development of the oil and gas in the state inaugurated a seven (7) man advisory committee on Friday April 26th, 2024.
The seven member committee made up erudite scholars and technocrats is being chaired by Hussain Kassim, PhD, a seasoned technocrat in the oil and gas sector.
He is the Capital Project Senior Advisor / Consultant Chevron Corporation, Houston, Texas United States and so by no means a novice in field
The Committee is charged with seven point terms of reference aimed at achieving the State’s full potentials in the oil and gas sector of the state economy.
The committee as the name suggest is no doubt a demonstration of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s avowed commitment to entrench inclusiveness in governance’ putting the people and their interest first.
This can be attested to the fact that since coming into office as governor in 2019, Governor Sule’s policy thrust has centred largely on human capital development and industrialization.
To achieve the buy-in of the people, Governor Sule believes the system must be built on equity, transparency and accountability; everything must be brought to the table.
Doing this, has continued to earn the people’s confidence and support for the administration as well attract investors to the state.
This is manifested by the oil and gas exploration and most recently the commissioning of the lithium factory in Karu
It must be said that the oil exploration in Obi has been a mixed grill of excitement and apprehension in the minds of the community and the people of the state.
The question has been what happens to the community in whose land the oil is found in terms of land degradation, environmental pollution and compensation?
This is why the Advisory Committee is largely considered as timely proactive measure to place the state on the right pedestal.
The committee is expected to among other things involved all critical stakeholders in addressing the terms of reference in order to achieve seamless implementation of the project.
This is quite visionary of a leader whose desire is placing the interest of his people first in emerging economy such as oil exploration which comes with its challenges.
The discovering and the ongoing exploration oil in the State is no doubt a huge economic relief considering the economic benefit.
It is expected therefore, that the Technical Advisory committee would exercise due diligence and adhere to the terms of reference.
This is to enable the state not only achieve her full potentials but also benefit maximally in terms of compensation, environmental degradation and pollution as well as investment.
Suffice to say, Nasarawa State must not suffer the same fate as has been the case with the people of the Niger Delta.
The inauguration of the advisory committee is no doubt a significant milestone in the life of the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule which seeks to establish transparency, and equity in governance.
The founding of the huge hydro carbon and oil deposit has further opened the doorway to the attainment of the much advertised industrialization drive of Governor Abdullahi Sule.
Since coming on board of the current administration, the focus has been the creation of enabling environment for private public partnership investment.
This drive is manifestly anchored by the development of the blueprint called the Nasarawa Economic Empowerment Strategy, NEEDS.
This document has remained the guiding road map of entry and participation of private investors into the state.
This is further supported by the peaceful and welcoming disposition of the people and the various security measures by the state government to see that the state is secured for investors to leverage on.
This explains why more and more investors have continued to make the state their investment destination
And it must be said that more and more investors are going to come now that the exploration of oil and gas in the state is a reality.
Besides these advantages, the state is well connected through roads and airports which investors may wish to leverage on to make their investment to do brisk business.
It must be said that a part of oil and gas potentials, the state is blessed with vast arable land for agriculture and estate development as well as tourism potentials and hydro power potentials
While we congratulate His Excellency Engineer Abdullahi Sule for putting the Team of Advisors, we kindly remind the team to do the state proud by ensuring that the people are not short-changed.
Engineer Abdullahi Sule Exceeding All Expectations.
