The Nasarawa State University Alumni Association has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the passing of the pioneer Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Professor Adamu Baikie.
In a statement signed by the National Public Relations Officer of the Association, Mr. Godspower Ede, the alumni body said the late educationist died on Friday, December 12, 2025, in Zaria, at the age of 94.
Professor Baikie, who was the first Professor of Education in Northern Nigeria, served as Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University for two terms between 2001 and 2008.
During his tenure, he laid a solid academic and administrative foundation that facilitated the successful takeoff and steady growth of the institution.
The Alumni Association described the late scholar as a visionary administrator whose legacies include the nurturing of young academics and the grooming of future leaders for Nasarawa State and Nigeria at large.
According to the statement, Professor Baikie would be fondly remembered for building a young university from scratch into a world-class citadel of learning that has become a preferred destination for both local and international academics.
“The National Executive Committee, the Board of Trustees, and the entire members of the Nasarawa State University Alumni Association mourn with the Baikie family, the University community, and the Nigerian education sector over this monumental loss,” the statement read.
The Association prayed for the repose of his soul and asked God to grant his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear the loss.
