The Nasarawa United Football Club on Sunday bowed to a disappointing 0-1 defeat against North Central Zonal rivals, Kwara United, in a matchday eleven fixture of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The highly anticipated derby match, which was played at the Lafia City Stadium, saw the visiting team score in 47 minutes, two minutes into the extra time of the first half.
The frustrating Sunday’s result sees United further dropping to the 18th spot on the League Table with 12 points from eleven games as Kwara United leapfrogged to 11th position with fourteen points.
The only goal of the match, which ensured all three points for the visiting team was scored by Emmanuel Ogbole, former striker of Nasarawa Utd and jersey number 9 of Kwara Utd.
Despite dominating possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities, the hosts could not find the back of the net, while the visitors capitalized on a solitary chance to seal the victory.
In a post-match interview, Coach Kabir Dogo of Nasarawa Utd said that his players played well, but said that the result was a disappointing one.
“We did not take our chances, especially in the second half when our opponents were a man down with a red card.
“They had just one or two chances, and they took advantage of that.
“We take it in good faith and look forward to bouncing back in our next game,” he added.
On his part, Coach Tunde Sanni of Kwara Utd appreciated God for helping his boys win an away game.
“Nasarawa United are a good side, but anxiety and the pressure to win cost them this game,” he added. (www.krestnews.com)
