The Mwar community in Chakfem Chiefdom, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, was thrown into mourning on Saturday night as armed militias launched a deadly attack that left three residents dead, several injured and properties destroyed in yet another wave of violence.

According to a statement issued by the Chakfem Development Association (CDA) and signed by its National Chairman, Yoila Yohanna Yilyuhur, and Publicity Secretary, Paul Yakbang, the attackers invaded the community under the cover of darkness, firing indiscriminately and causing widespread panic among residents who have been living in fear due to recent assaults on neighbouring communities.

The CDA said the gruesome attack left three innocent persons brutally murdered, while survivors with varying degrees of injuries were rushed to hospitals in Mangu for urgent medical attention. Livestock—including cattle, goats and sheep—were rustled, leaving many families without their major sources of livelihood. Homes, food stores and valuables were either destroyed or looted, compounding the hardship of a community already battered by previous attacks.

The Association expressed deep concern over the proximity of the attack to a location where security personnel are stationed, yet the assailants operated unhindered. According to the CDA, the failure of security agents to respond during the assault raises serious questions about protection and accountability.

It called on the Plateau State Government to strengthen security across Chakfem Chiefdom and ensure that the abandoned road construction project is immediately resumed to enable swift security response and evacuation of victims during emergencies.

The CDA also urged the Nigerian Army, Operation Safe Haven, and other federal security agencies to investigate the incident, arrest the perpetrators and dismantle militia groups terrorizing communities in the Chiefdom. Additionally, it appealed to NEMA, SEMA, and humanitarian organizations to provide urgent relief for the displaced.

“The plight of our people must not be ignored,” the statement added. “Chakfem Chiefdom deserves protection, justice and the right to live peacefully on its ancestral land.” Follow www.krestnews.com
