The Nigerian Navy has dismissed Lieutenant S.N. Obini (service number NN/4488) after a Special Court Martial found him guilty of gross misconduct, including engaging in an illicit relationship with a colleague’s wife.

The officer was sentenced to three years imprisonment and dismissed from service, with effect from November 23, 2024. The disciplinary action was carried out on August 29, 2025, at the Nigerian Navy Institute of Technology (NNIT) parade ground. Captain O.O. Dada, the Director of Training, publicly announced the punishment before officers and men.

Lieutenant Obini faced a four-count charge, which included sexual relations with a service personnel’s wife (contrary to Section 79 of the Armed Forces Act), scandalous conduct (Section 91), and deceiving a witness (under Section 122 of the Criminal Code Act).

Following a legal review, the Navy Board upheld the judgment, confirming that due process was followed.
