From Sule Aliyu Bauchi
Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad of Bauchi State says given the needed resources the Nigerian military can defeat insurgency within one month.
Muhammad made the assertion when he received participants of Course 33 of the National Defense College, Abuja, who visited him at Government House, Bauchi.
He commended the Nigeria military for the sacrifices they are making to secure the unity and territorial integrity of the country.
He opined that the Nigerian military has remained on top of the security situation of the country despite the lean resources at their disposal.
The visit was part of a study tour aimed to acquire knowledge on regional security dynamics and effective governance.
Addressing the delegation, Mohammed believed that Boko Haram Insurgency, banditry and other armed conflicts bedeviling the country would have been nipped in the bud by the military if they had been given the needed resources.
“This is what the Nigeria military are known for,” he stated.
“It is really a paradox today that we are bombarded by Boko Haram, bandits and forms of crimes and criminality.
“I believe that the Nigerian army given the resources needed will be able to deal with Boko haram in one month.
“We believe a day will come where the army will be given the rightful responsibility and attention so that Nigeria will be secured.
“Any humanitarian crisis that will affect Nigeria, the whole world will be affected.
“No any other country can contain Nigeria even the Africa continent. We are 250 million in population but we thank the military for making us feel secured and protected all the time”
The governor urged the political class to appreciate the sacrifices made by the military by knowing their responsibility to the former.
“We are not just bloody civilians we also have a sense of security,” he said.
“We must be able to collaborate with the military to defeat insurgents and bandits relying on your professionalism and patriotism.
“Issues of conflict resolutions are germane and of course we have come a long way in ensuring even civilians are now able to manage conflicts.
“Along with the security chiefs we are searing Bauchi State together with communities, our traditional and religious leaders.
“Security has become everybody’s business because we have no option than to make sure the state is secured.
“We are agrarian and the food basket of the east and Nigeria and the only thing is to secure the farms, the schools, and the business environment even if that is all we can do.
“We have already provided the enabling environment for business to thrive and for people to come and to secure their property. We learned this from the military and if that is only what we can do to give our people”
Speaking earlier, the Commandant of the College, Rear Admiral Morakinyo, commended the governor’s commitment and efforts to initiate integration of local and national security to protect lives and property of the governed.
Morakinyo, expressed optimism that the study tour would allow participants to develop informed, actionable recommendations that would overcome both regional and national security issus
