Krestnews reports from Minna, the Niger State capital say the State Governor, Farmer Mohammed Umaru has directed the immediate recovery of all grazing reserves/ lands in the state which have been encroached or abandoned over the years.

The Governor was speaking at the inauguration of 10 member committee on the recovery of grazing reserves on Friday, in the state

He said, “23 grazing reserves have been identified across the 25 local Government Areas of the State Government will take control of the reserves in accordance with the Land Use Act”.

Chaired by the Emir of Kagara, Ahmed Attahiru Gunna II, the committee is mandated by the Governor to identify all state and federal government owned grazing reserves located in the state.

“The committee is mandated to trace relevant history associated with each grazing reserve, ascertain the establishment, record of acquisition and payment of compensation if any. It is also to determine the size and present statuses of each grazing reserve”, he said

” The move will enhance the actualization of the FULAKO initiative of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu in the state”, the governor said

He said the State government has solicited for the support of relevant stakeholders including Traditional Rulers for the actualization of its Agricultural revolution policy, adding that, “the state government would reactivate forest guards to secure agricultural activities across the state “.

Chairman of the Committee and Emir of Kagara, Ahmed Attahiru Gunna II, appreciated the Governor for giving them the mandate and opportunity to serve the State, promising that the committee would carry out its duties diligently.

Krestnews further reports that the Committee has three weeks to submit its report.
