The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Coordinator in Bauchi State, Yahcit Dala has charged female journalists in the state to hold the government at all levels accountable by ensuring that human Rights abuses and violations are reduced to the barest minimum through their reports.
She said her office has received over 25,319complaints on abuses and violations from January to May, calling on the media to set more agenda in protecting the dignity of the human person.
The coordinator who stated this during a one day sensitisation workshop organised by the Nigeria Association of Women held at American Space Bauchi, commended the Media for partnering with her office to sensitise the public on their rights and abuse.
She explained that the media is a powerful institution to use in halting abuses as it keeps all the relevant stakeholders on check. She called on NAWOJ to use their various platforms to ensure that all Nigerians know their fundamental Human Rights.
Earlier in her remarks, the chairperson NAWOJ, appreciated the NHRC for facilitating the workshop. She said NAWOJ is ready to partner with the Commission to report human rights abuses. End
