The Chairman of the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), Barrister Ayuba Usman Wandai attended Inter Agency Consultative Committee meeting on Election Security as part of deliberate efforts towards peaceful conduct of the November 2nd local government polls.
The meeting was held at the headquarters of the Nasarawa State Police Command today Thursday, October 17.
Barr.Wandai while speaking, said the meeting was aimed at creating synergy between the State electoral body and the security agencies operating in the state with a view to fashion out ways to deploy security during the election and to also ensure seamless relationship with the security agencies.
“We are aware in NASIEC that implementing our statutory mandate directly affects the peace and security of this state, hence the need for us to collaborate closely with security agencies to ensure that we have a peaceful exercise.
The NASIEC Chairman underscored the significance of the role of the security agencies in achieving a successful and peaceful conduct of the scheduled council polls.
“We regard our relationship with security agencies as the basis that will give us success in this forthcoming election. It is our hope that the election, based on all that we have arranged and agreed on, will be peaceful and orderly,” he stated.
Wandai appreciated participants at the meeting for turning up for the meeting despite the short notice.
Soeaking, Co-Chairman of the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security and Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Shehu Umar Nadada, said the meeting was called in order to discuss on election security for the forthcoming local government council polls slated for November 2, 2024.
The CP pointed out that the meeting was necessary for the participants to share notes towards ensuring that a high degree of professionalism is exhibited during the election.
Krestnews reports that participants are expected to discuss their levels of preparedness, after the NASIEC chairman had briefed the committee.
