A group under the aegis Nasarawa State Youth Coalition has appealed to the Supreme Court Judges decide the case on the state governorship dispute base on merit and not technicalities.

The group made the call at a press conference on Saturday in Lafia the state capital of the state.

Speaking at the conference Barr. Iliya Ashokpa-Auna spokesperson of the group said the call became imperative in order to safeguard democracy and avert any negative consequence.

The coalition commended the supreme court on their recent judgments on the governorship disputes in Kano, Plateau and other states where they were decided on merit and not technicalities.

“The judgments had saved Kano, Plateau and other states from eminent crisis because there were serious tension prior to the judgment in those states.

“The judges should also base their judgment on merit and review the BVAS records of Gayam and Ciroma Electoral Wards of Lafia Local Government Area as well as other places that rigging was alleged to have taken place.

“If that is done and a decision is taken, it would prove that judiciary is indeed the last hope of a common man because justice will be seen to have been done.

“It will also restore the confidence of the vast majority of people and encourage popular participation in subsequent elections,” the group added.

The spokesperson said they were aware that certain individuals were determined to upturn the will of our people and are bragging that they judgment would be in their favour.

“These individuals believe that their connections with the apex court or their ability to buy justice can secure victory for their candidate,” he added.

He also appreciated all groups that had stood up for the injustice done to the people of the state through protest and other activities within the ambit of the law.

He particularly appreciated the women groups who had been protesting on the streets since the announcement of the March 18, 2023 governorship result in the state.

“We stand united in our belief that justice will prevail, and that the true will of the people is upheld in tune with the re-newed hope mantra of President Bola Tinubu.
