The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has frowned at the use of fake number plates by commercial motorcyclists in Nasarawa State.
Corps Sector Commander, Lucia Samuel-Mhii, Nasarawa State Sector Commander of FRSC, Lucia Samuel Mhii stated this in an interview with newsmen on Monday in Lafia.
The Sector Commander explained that investigation shows that some dealers are selling motor cycles with fake and unregistered number plates.
She said that such malpractice would not be tolerated and advised motorcyclist without registration to do so in order to avoid sanction.
Commander Samuel-Mhii also said that the Corps would work with traditional rulers, the state government and other stakeholders to put to an end the activities of those perpetrating the act of selling motor cycles with fake number plates.
She further said that the Command was planning a joint enforcement on fake number plates and unregistered vehicles and motorcycles in the state.
She explained that the enforcement operation would comprised their personnel, state government, traditional rulers and officials of motorcyclists as well as other unions in the state.
On her plans as the new FRSC boss in the state, she said that part of her roadmap is to reduce road crashes to it barest minimum through partnership, sensitisation and enforcement of traffic rules.
She added that there are influx of commercial motorcyclists from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja and other Northern States as well as other states that banned the operation of commercial motorcyclists into the state.
“The influx has led to a situation where there are a lot of commercial motorcyclists operating in the state thereby constituting threat on the highways especially in Lafia, the state capital.
“Most of commercial motorcyclists are not registered with their unions and we will work with the unions to ensure they all register for easy regulation and control,” she added.
The commander said that she had interacted with the six different unions of commercial motorcyclists and National Union of Road Transport Workers and they all promised to corporate with them.
