Mr Sonny Agassi, Director General (DG) of Nasarawa State Geographic Information Service (NAGIS) has empowered no fewer than 100 vulnerable persons in Obi Local Government Area (LGA).

Agassi made the donation in an event to commemorate his 54th birthday on Monday in Obi LGA of the state.

Speaking at the event, the NAGIS boss explained that the beneficiaries were carefully selected from the five electoral wards that made up Jenkwe Development Area in Obi LGA.

Agassi further explained that the gesture was aimed at given back to his community that made him in order to alleviate the suffering being faced by the poorest of the poor.

He promised to continue to support the vulnerable, especially widows and orphans to make their lives worthwhile.

He therefore, called on the beneficiaries to use the monies judiciously and invest in trade in order to improve the welfare of their respective families.

Also speaking at the event, Dr Emmanuel Akabe, Deputy Gov. of the state, congratulated the celebrant on his 54 birthday anniversary and commended him for caring for the poor.

“I thank my brother for this humanitarian gesture, this to me is very sensitive and it calls for emulation,” Akabe said.

Akabe, the special guest of honour at the event, called on the beneficiaries to utilize the money and not use it on things that constitute economic waste.

In his goodwill message, Sent. Umaru Al-Makura, former governor of the state and father of the day at the occasion, lauded the celebrant for remembering his community.

“I comment you for thinking about your community and giving back to them from what Almighty God has blessed you with.

“I want everyone that is here today, including myself to support our people no matter how small it might be to alleviate what they people are going through right now.

“It does not have to be big. I am throwing the challenge to all of us, including myself, that no matter how small, we should think of those who have not”. Al-Makura added.

Highlight of the occasion includes symbolic presentation of dummy checks to the beneficiaries.(NAN)
