A group, Middle Belt Vanguard For Good Governance has urged Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to exercise restraint and adhere strictly to constitutional protocols in any attempts to forcefully arrest the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.
Addressing a Press conference on Wednesday in Jos, the spokesperson of the Mohammed Garba, expressed concern over reports of impending arrests, and emphasized the importance of upholding due process and respecting the rule of law in all legal proceedings.
The Group advised EFCC to ensure that any investigations or actions taken against Yahaya Bello are conducted in a transparent and fair manner.
The Middle Belt Vanguard further underscored the need for impartiality and integrity in the pursuit of justice, calling on the EFCC to refrain from any actions that could be perceived as politically motivated or biased.
While calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to call the EFCC to order, the group reiterated its commitment to upholding justice and accountability while advocating for the rights and dignity of all individuals, including former public officials like Yahaya Bello.
They emphasized the importance of due process and urged the EFCC to act accordingly in any dealings related to the former governor.
“The flagrant disregard for constituted authority and our judiciary by the EFCC should not be a matter to be treated with levity. The High Court in Kogi State on the 9th of February 2024, granted an interim injunction restraining the EFCC from “continuing to harass, threaten to arrest, detain, prosecute” Yahaya Bello, his former appointees, and his staff or family members pending the hearing and determination of the substantive originating motion for the enforcement of his fundamental rights” The group added.
