Member representing Akwanga/Nasarawa-Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency, J. J. Umaru has provided economic stimulus to 250 constituents as part of his efforts aimed at addressing the current economic hardship being faced in the country.
The economic stimulus packages which include refrigerators, sowing and grinding machines among several other items is to empower beneficiaries achieve self reliance and stimulate growth through SMEs across his federal constituency.
Speaking at the event marking the official distribution of the items, on June 14, in Wamba Local Government Area (LGA) of Nasarawa State, the law maker said that the beneficiaries were drown from the 35 electoral wards of the constituency.
According to News Agency of Nigeria reports, Akwanga has 11 electoral wards, Nassarawa-Eggon has 14, while Wamba has 10 respectively, bringing the total to 35.
He said that five persons were carefully selected from each of the electoral wards and the remaining 75 slots were allocated to stakeholders and community leaders to appreciate them for their votes, support and prayers in the last one year.
Umaru explained that similar gesture were done in the past to support his constituents in farming as well as trading in order to make their lives worthwhile.
He said that the beneficiaries cut across APC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Labour Party,, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and other political parties in the constituency.
“Though I am a member of APC, but as it stands I am representing everyone in my constituency and my major interest is the better the living conditions of my constituents irrespective of political parties affiliations,” he added.
“I have sponsored 10 bills, moved eight motions in the last one year in addition to the empowerment items we are bringing to our people.
“Some of the bills had passed first reading already and if they are finally passed and signed by the President, commercial activities and life generally will be better for our people.
“My focus is the change the narrative and give my constituents the best representation they deserved to justify their choice at the polls,” he added.
Umaru had also distributed over 1000 bags of 50kg rice the 35 electoral wards to enable them celebrate the forthcoming sallah.
The law maker therefore urged the beneficiaries not to sell the items, but use them for businesses to better their lives and families.
Some beneficiaries who spoke to newsmen appreciated the law maker for the gesture and prayed God to continue to guide, guard and protect him.
Hussaini Alaku, and Hanatu Sunday, members of APGA PDP from Nassarawa-Eggon LGA said that the member had distinguished himself and demonstrated that indeed the people are the reason for democracy.
“He is carrying everybody in the constituency along without discriminating on the basis of political parties as such, we will reward him at the appropriate time,” the duo added.
