Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, on Wednesday, formally launched the Plateau Central Senatorial District campaign for the upcoming Local Government elections, urging the people to take charge of their Local Government Areas to usher in transformational development.

Addressing a large crowd during the flag-off event in Pankshin Local Government Area, Governor Mutfwang called on the people to assert their power through the ballot by voting for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on October 9. He emphasized that this is the moment to put an end to governance deficits and restore progress at the grassroots level.

The Governor praised the resilience, commitment, and steadfast loyalty of Plateau Central to the PDP, encouraging them to showcase their strength by electing PDP Chairmanship and Councilorship candidates. This, he noted, is crucial for inclusive governance, transparency, and delivering tangible dividends of democracy to the people.

Governor Mutfwang stressed that the time for Kanam Local Government to reclaim its identity under the PDP is now. He further noted that Kanke, Pankshin, and Bokkos Local Government Areas must also rally under the PDP banner.

He assured the people that the government is actively working to address the challenges faced by the zone, and reaffirmed his commitment to bringing Plateau Central fully back into the PDP fold.

Expressing confidence in the upcoming elections, the Governor said that with the election of PDP Chairmen and Councillors, the development that has eluded the people for years will be restored. He dismissed concerns from those accustomed to electoral malpractice, emphasizing that rigging is not part of his political ethos. Instead, he expressed optimism that the PDP would secure a decisive victory in the Local Government elections.

Governor Mutfwang highlighted the transformative initiatives his administration is rolling out in sectors such as agriculture, security, education, and healthcare to strengthen the economy and alleviate the current hardships in the country.

He also symbolically presented flags to all PDP Chairmanship candidates from the Plateau Central zone, signaling their anticipated victory in the October 9, 2024 council elections.

In his remarks, Plateau State PDP Chairman, Hon. Chris Hassan, welcomed several notable decampees from the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the PDP fold. They include the former APC members of the State House of Assembly, Local Government Chairmen, and other party officials.

Hon. Hassan encouraged the people to remain steadfast in their support for the PDP, asserting that the upcoming Local Government election would mark the beginning of reclaiming the zone for the party.

Earlier, Governor Mutfwang paid a courtesy visit to the Ngolong Ngas, Nde Jika Golit, expressing gratitude for the traditional ruler’s leadership and urging him to continue promoting peace and unity. The Governor also sought his support for the PDP in ensuring development in Pankshin and Kanke Local Government Areas.

Responding, the Ngolong Ngas, Nde Jika Golit, commended Governor Mutfwang for his leadership and peaceful approach. He assured the Governor of the unwavering support of the Ngas people as they look forward to the Local Government elections and future polls.
