The All Progressive Congress APC chairmanship candidate for Riyom local government Council of Plateau state, Chom Bagu i have alleged that
32 Polling Units with
17,761 Voters were Disenfranchised in
the just concluded local government elections.

Bagu alongside Seven councillorship candidates from various Political Parties, APC, ADP and LP said elections
were not held in Ganuwuri and three other Wards of the council due to non availability of ballot papers.

According to the aggrieved Candidates the local government elections were not held in Tse Ward, Fangroi Ward and Bum Ward of the Ganuwuri Chiefdom.

Bagu a renounced human right activitist while addressing a Press Conference during a Protest of the Political Parties in Ganuwuri, Riyom Local Government accused Plateau State Independent Electoral commission PLASIEC for disenfranchising the electorates.

According to him while elections were said to be conducted across the state, PLASIEC deliberately decided to under supply election materials in Bum, Fangroi and Tse Wards of Ganuwuri Chiefdom and thereby disenfranchising the electorates within the said wards.

Bagu alleged illegalities during the 9th October 2024 LG Polls, saying the results announced for Atakar ward in Ganawuri were already thumb ballots Papers a day before the election day.

On the day of the election, when the PLASIEC officials came, the informed the affected Wards about their constraint, all the electorates and the candidates agreed that a day would be fixed for a re-run election within a affected Wards, and this was done with the knowledge of the Divisional Police officer DPO of Riyom LGC, but PLASIEC failed to return to conduct the elections, and we were surprised that votes were allocated to us while there wasn’t an election. All we demand is for PLASIEC to come and conduct our elections, because all of us the candidates have spend time and resources for campaigns and preparation for the election.

Also Speaking with Journalists, the Action Democratic Party ADP Councillorship candidate for Tse Ward Ngyang Danladi Chai, expressed his displeasure, explained that his political party ADP, petitioned the Plateau independent electoral commission PLASIEC, immediately the incident took placed but later uncovered that their petition fail on deaf ears.

Similarly, another Councillorship candidate for Labour Party LP in Tse Ward Monday Dabo, reiterated the what other councillorship candidates had observed.

Our correspondent reports that the aggrieved voters also displayed their grievances in various placards carried by them.
