Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Engr. Ahmadu Musa Kida, has reiterated his commitment to transforming the NNPCL into a globally competitive and commercially driven energy company.
Speaking during a leadership panel session at the recently concluded Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) in the United Arab Emirates, Kida emphasized that leadership built on empathy, collaboration, and accountability yields the best results.
Drawing from his background as a former national basketball player, Kida likened effective leadership to a well-coordinated team:
“Everybody has a role, and we must collaborate to make sure every function works optimally. My leadership style is highly collaborative—but everyone must also be accountable. If you shoot and miss, you have to own it.”
Highlighting the company’s ongoing ‘Fit for the Future’ initiative, Kida explained that the project is designed to benchmark NNPCL’s operations against global best practices, ensuring efficiency and innovation across all departments.
He revealed that the company has recruited seasoned industry professionals into key leadership positions while instituting robust governance structures that promote transparency, trust, and employee engagement.
“Our greatest asset is our people. When you treat them with respect and honesty, they deliver beyond expectations,” he noted.

Kida concluded by urging leaders to embrace humility, integrity, and fairness in their leadership journey:
“Treat everyone as a human being. Respect them, make them accountable, and always walk the talk.”
Energy watchers and industry experts have hailed Kida’s leadership philosophy as a model capable of driving Nigeria’s oil and gas industry toward renewed growth and sustainability.
