Kaura Communities on the auspices of Kaura Community Development Association have made a passion appeal to the government to address the current security challenge being faced in the area.
President of the Community Development Association, Mr Abel Habila Adamu, while addressing the media on Sunday, January 19th, said there is a relapse of security in the area that has resulted in loss of lives, destruction of property and displacement of thousands of people rendering their homeless.
He said the current renewed attacks by bandits, despite community efforts to stem the menace, are overwhelming, and it requires government intervention.
He said last Friday that a woman was abducted and killed in Kiffin of Chawai, despite the payment of the ransom demanded by the bandits.
Mr Abel Habila Adamu went further to say that in Kumana and Kauru Chiefdoms, thousands of people have also been displaced with several others killed in Dokan Daji, Bandi, Rumaya, Kwassam, Kaibi, Kusheka, Gashere, and Binawa axis of Kauru LGA
The community, therefore, called for the establishment of two military camps in Kauru and Kumana Chiefdoms to help curb the menace and give the people a sense of security as according to him, the people now live in great fear of the unknown
While thanking the government for the establishment of a military base in Chawai, the community called for the provision of more service men to adequately deal with pockets of attacks being witnessed in the area.
He used the forum to appeal to the governor, Uba Sani to as a matter of urgency addresses the issue of infrastructure, which he said is the bane of the communities in Kauru LGA, especially road network.
He explained that Kauru LGA, which is made up of three Chiefdoms, namely Kauru, Chawai, and Kumana, lacks a good road network, stressing that it takes approximately 9-10 hours to access the area by security forces during emergency.
He said such has been the reason for lack of swift response by the security forces, Operation Safe Haven, stationed in Kafanchan.
“It is in the light of the above,we are advocating the extension of the construction of the construction of the Pambegua-Kauru Road to Kwassam, Geshere, and Mariri to link communities in the three Chiefdoms to ease transportation problems faced by the people, especially during rainy season….enhanced the security of the people by providing easier access to security personnel and emergency services. “
The community leader also, on behalf of the people, commended the efforts of the Chairman Kauru LGC and members of the National Assembly representing the area for their various efforts in seeing that the people have security
While appreciating the efforts so far made by security forces, Operation Safe Haven, he assured of their readiness to partner very closely in addressing the current security challenges are over.(www.krestnews.com)
