The NYSC in a release on Monday obtained by SaharaReporters said this “brings the total number of Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) already released to five, while efforts are still ongoing to ensure that the remaining three (one female and two male) still in captivity regain their freedom soonest.”

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has confirmed that its efforts with the military have witnessed the further release of another female Prospective Corps Member and the driver of the bus kidnapped in Zamfara State on their way to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Sokoto in August 2023.

The NYSC in a statement issued today Monday February 5, said the release of the Corps member brings the total number of Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) so far freed to five stressing that efforts are on to secure the remaining three (one female and two male) still in captivity soonest.

The statement reads: “The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General YD Ahmed appreciates the security agents for their untiring efforts that resulted in the release of the PCMs, adding the Scheme will never shirk its responsibility of upholding the welfare of Corps Members at all times.

Krestnews reports that the NYSC members were kidnapped in Zamfara State by suspected terrorists on their way to camp in August 2023.

The Corps members were reported to be travelling in an Akwa Ibom Transport Company (AKTC) bus from Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital to Sokoto State, for the one-year national service, when their vehicle was intercepted by the bandits.

In all the report had then that there were 11 Corps members in the bus, and the driver, but three of the Corps members escaped during the terrorists’ attack.

However in October last year, NYSC announced rescue of one of the abducted prospective Corps members, a female.

This means that there are still at least three more of the kidnapped Corps members still being held captive by the terrorists
