The Joint Task Force comprising of personnel from the Police, DSS, NSCDC, Immigration, FRSC, and Operation Rainbow saddled with the responsibility of ensuring sanity in the Jos Terminus Market area, while conducting a clearance operation today, met stiff resistance from a mob.

The police in a statement issued by the Command PPRO, DSP Alfred Alabo today explained that as a result of failed attempt to bring the situation under control failed,a warning shot was fired by an officer from one of the sister agencies which unfortunately hit one Inspector Emmanuel Tanko with attached to Mopol 38 Akwanga, Nasarawa State who is on special duty in Plateau State Command, resulting to his death on the spot.

In order to restore normalcy in the State, the Commissioner of Police Plateau State Command, CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, had to visit the scene to assess the situation.

He said the officer that fired the shot has been arrested, and that he is currently under investigation at the State CID Jos while the remains of victim’s has been deposited at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital in Jos for autopsy.

The Plateau State Commissioner of Police used the opportunity to extend his condolences to the family of the deceased officer and the entire Nigeria Police Force over the tragic loss of this diligent and dutiful officer.

He further urged members of the public to always cooperate with the security agencies in the execution of their lawful duties, as the laws the officers were enforcing are for the general good of the citizens.

The CP assured the general public that the Plateau State Police Command under his watch will not relent in its efforts to train and retrain its officers to ensure they are professionally oriented.
