Nasarawa State’s newly appointed Commissioner of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Dr. Ibrahim Tanko has sought for collaboration and support from the media in the dissemination of right information on state government policies and programmes.

The Commissioner made the appeal in Lafia, the state capital while undertaking familiarization tour of media houses in the metropolis.

Dr. Tanko emphasized the importance of accurate reportage, ethics, support, and unity among media practitioners to enhance better working relationships.

He commended the state government led by Engr. Abdullahi Sule, for prioritizing the information sector and providing necessary support, including donation of buses to the State Council and Correspondent Chapel, as well as renovating the NUJ Secretariat.

The Council Chairman, Comrade Salihu Mohammed Alkali, thanked Dr. Tanko for the visit and assured him of the NUJ’s support.

Alkali used the forum also appealed to the Ministry to include more journalists in future trips to such places as the Mecca and to Jerusalem for pilgrimages.

During the tour, Dr. Tanko visited various broadcast media organisations, including Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS), NTA Lafia, Breeze FM, and Precious FM Lafia.

At each organisations he emphasized the need for cooperation and collaboration between the government and media practitioners to promote the image of the government within and outside the state.


In their separate remarks, the Executive Vice Chairman Mal. Awalu Salihu stated the need to revamp the station especially the equipment which he described as absolete and canvassed for establishment of state Newspaper and revive cultural festival activities to showcase or open the state to wider world through tourism.

While the General Manager of NTA, Hajiya. Rahmatu Salaudeen applauded the state government for the support to the station and assured of their commitments to doing all they could to project the image of the government.

She commended Governor Sule for appointing one of their own to serve as the Commissioner of Information as such “NTA Station will ensure maximum support to enable him to succeed.
The media tour is aimed to familiarize himself with the operations of the Ministry, to interface with media houses and foster a stronger working relationship with the media organisations for effective service delivery, especially information management and dessimination inline with best practices,

Krestnews reports that on the Commissioner’s tour was the Permanent Secretary, Yusuf Musa Esq. Various head of departments in the Ministry.
