Fidelity Bank PLC on Monday, distributed food packs to 1,500 vulnerable households in Nassarawa Eggon, Nasarawa State, aimed at ameliorating the economic hardship on the people.

Dr Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, Group Managing and Chief Executive Officer of the bank, said the gesture was part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of giving back to the downtrodden.

Represented by Mrs Vanessa Mordi, Abuja Regional Manager, the MD said that the Food Bank initiate began in 2022 and no fewer than two million vulnerable households had benefitted across the country.

She said that the bank, in collaboration with Abbasid Charity Foundation try to identify vulnerable communities for the distribution of the food item.

The MD noted that the bank would sustain the initiative in order to reach more households.

Also speaking, Hauwa Abbas, Founder,Abbasid Charity Foundation, said that the Bank had distributed food packs in three communities Nasarawa State – Lafia, Karu and Keffi under the Food Bank Initiative.

She commended the Bank for reaching out to the poor and vulnerable, and urged other corporate organisations to emulate Fidelity Bank in order to address acute hunger in the country.

Mr Iliya Ibn-Aliyu, Chairman, Nassarawa-Eggon Local Government Area, appreciated Fidelity Bank for choosing area for the intervention.

He maintained that the challenges facing Nigerians required the collaboration of the private sector as government could not address them alone.

Ibn-Aliyu reiterated the commitment of his administration to partner corporate organisation to better the lots of the people.

Also, the traditional ruler of the area, Retired Justice Ahmed Ubangeri-Alaku, the Aren Eggon, lauded Fidelity Bank for the gesture.

Ubangeri-Alaku, noted that what the bank had done was novel and urged other corporate organisations to emulate the gesture in the interest of the poor and vulnerable in the society.

Some of the beneficiaries, Hajiya Salamatu Umar and Esther Esson, said the food packs would go a long way for their families.
