A cleaner from the Borno State Environmental Protection Agency (BOSEPA) engaged in keeping the Gubio internally displaced peoples camp clean has been killed in the cause of doing his duty at the camp in the outskirts of Maiduguri.

The man name withheld by reliable camp sources was thirsty and went to look for sachet water to drink and died in the process.

Krestnews. com source stated that he was doing his normal cleaning chores on that day when he stepped out of his location and found himself in the back of the water tanker which crushed him to death.

Our reporter recalls that water used to be very scarce in that outskirt area of greater maiduguri which is why tankers are used to serve the entire “Shagari low cost, A and B” plus Gubio camp which is nearby between Chabbal and 7 Division of the Nigerian Army with the exception of residences that have bore holes.

“Trouble started when the tanker which used to bring water to the Gubio camp was approaching the gate crushed the man to death leaving camp residents bewildered.

The tragedy actually occurred when the tanker was trying to reverse at gubio camp and suddenly knocked down the man.

The corpse was rushed to the Maiduguri specialist hospital by 12 O’clock on that day. The man was a Bosepa cleaner who had just finished his chores for the day. So after sweeping the compound, he went to buy packaged water to drink and met his demise.” said our source.

Attempts to reach the commissioner of environment Engineer Emat Kois for comments was futile as his mobile phone was not reachable.

Meanwhile tenants of the reoccupied Gubio camp were seen speaking in hushed tones when this reporter visited after a strange snake was said to have bitten a small child within the vicinity.

Gubio camp has since been emptied of idps from insurgents, however many residents of Maiduguri whose homes were pulled down by the angry flood of September 10th this year were transported to wait there until government gives them solace.

Over a month after, the flood water is yet to dry up completely in many places of the metropolis of Maiduguri.
